May Changes Bring Healing

Things are often changing in our personal world and in the larger world of societal and political arenas.  Changes occur in the natural earth environment on a regular basis, some are evolutionary and some, due to human ignorance, are regressive or destructive.  Humans live with constant change, while striving to create security and permanence. Hence, our relationship to everything over which we have no control determines how we live our lives.  Viewing difficulty and suffering as isolating, a sign of weakness and failure, or as an obstacle that has to be overcome results in one world view.  Viewing difficulty and suffering as an initiatory experience that calls one to be more present and open to transcendence results in a different world view.  Changes are going to happen.  We have little or no control over our outer circumstances.  So, how are changes going to bring healing to us personally, let alone to the greater world?

523406466Once again, we come to the truth that attitude is everything.  If we examine the attitude that suffering and difficulties are an indication there is something wrong with us, with our job, with our family, with our communities, with the government, and with Spirit itself, we may conclude that “God is dead!” and “I have to look out for number one.”  At worst, this attitude becomes a cause of war, violence, domination, and the greedy, relentless destruction of the earth in order to satisfy a need for safety and comfort.  If we examine the attitude that suffering and difficulties are a normal part of life and a call for us to be open, engaged, and cooperative in discovering how to move through the vicissitudes with compassion, kindness, and generosity to all involved we might find ourselves following in the footsteps of the Great Beings of Spirit.  This attitude of initiation or innovative beginnings can become the incentive to find a cure for life-threatening diseases, discover how to feed the hungry of the world, clean up the oceans, or negotiate a lasting peace for war torn countries.  In all challenges and changes the choice is clear- will it be Me or We

Before western civilization decided to regard happiness as an inalienable right and therefore deemed pain and sadness as a diagnosis that needed treatment- woundedness and aliveness were thought of as natural and dependent on each other in order to find something deeper than momentary satisfaction- Joy.  Think of a time when you were really ill for days or even weeks and then one day you awoke and knew you were on the mend.  That feeling was more than fleeting happiness it was a deep seated joy.  Or, consider a time of loss when a loved individual, human or animal, had left you brokenhearted.  For a time, everything reminded you of the pain until one day all those same things reminded you of the love.  This is the meaning of joy. Someday, when we are awake, at last, we still have to decide how to come to peace with the very real life experience of suffering.

ABFM-changes_old-new.jpg.daijpg.380Changes can bring healing into our lives and into the world.  However, change doesn’t always bring healing or evolution.  Sometimes, change is just a different form of injustice, suffering, and rhetoric. So, how can a person develop evolutionary change?  One way is called cognitive behavioral therapy.  This is a form of self-questioning that examines motivations and unconscious habit patterns to discover if there is a true willingness to change or only an imagined desire to change.  Some of these questions are: What change do I wish to make?  Why do I want to make this change?  What are the advantages of staying the same?  What are the perceived advantages of changing?  What changes have I succeeded in making in the past?  What qualities were required to make that change?

Transformation is a process and takes more than simply making up one’s mind in order to engage the desired evolution.  Just like in the political or societal world where the majority of people have to be convinced that the restructuring process is actually worthwhile, our internal committee voices have to be convinced to cooperative or failure is inevitable and permanent.  All evolution is an experiment to see what works and what doesn’t.  Amma Ilowan often says– failure is inevitable, success requires repeated effort.  One of my favorite sayings from t-shirt ads is- What would you create if you knew you could not fail?  It takes more courage to live in the world as it is, than going open-eyed toward certain death.

pranic-healing-and-reikiA spiritual life doesn’t necessarily lead to tranquility, peace, or a beautiful feeling about ourselves or how nice it is to be together with others.  An ordinary life, with or without spirit, doesn’t lead to these feelings either.  If we want our changes to heal our heart, and bring about the possibility of a better world we need courage, determination, a positive attitude, and the remembrance of who we truly are.  The negative voices in our heads and the negative voices surrounding us are so loud and persistent that it is easy to believe them.  It’s the trap of being a fugitive hiding from life in entertainment, drugs, alcohol, or sexual addiction.  The transformational journey of healing change requires constant remembrance that we are the avatars of Divine Spirit and Divine Spirit is within us, around us, and expressing as us.  We are not taking our life journey alone.  Divine Mother, Father, and Weaver are walking with us.  Our job is to accept Presence and listen to our authentic, true self.  In this way, changes shall bring healing for ourselves and maybe the whole world.

The Word, The Will, The Way

divine-sparkIn the beginning was the word.  The word was with the Divine and the word was the Divine.  All things were made by the word and without the word nothing was made.  In the beginning the Divine sent out sparks from itself, sparks of potential love, kindness, compassion, and generosity.  Some of these sparks became angels of light and some incarnated as humans into the earth worlds.  Each spark held the ability to activate the Divine Mission of Grace and Benevolence but few understood how to properly use the word, the will, and the way.  And so chaos, confusion, and the darkness of selfishness became manifest causing extreme suffering for all life.

Every human on our planet is a spark of Divine Potential a piece of the Great Plan of Grace and Blessing intended from the beginning of time.  Potential means: possible or likely although not yet actual; powers or resources not yet developed or made use of; a latent possibility.  Therefore, when we have not yet discovered or manifested our divine purpose, we must incarnate again and again to demonstrate our part of the Divine Mission.

nytimes-word-cloud_2In order to accomplish this, humans have been gifted with the word, the will, and the way.  The word is thought, focused intention and attention on what we believe, know, and consider important.  Words are constantly filling our mind.  Even in meditation we notice thought/words and decide not to focus on them.  The word/thought we continually pay attention to, believe and know is true becomes infused with Will.  Will is thought fortified through emotions.  When the word/thought is present and we engage our feelings and emotions with that thought it becomes manifest.  The manifestation of thought/word as a tangible experience is the creation of the Way.

Example: If I am convinced that I’m not very smart, or confident, or lovable there will be a dialogue taking place in my mind that persuades me this is true.  It may be the inner voices of my parents, teachers, or the words may be coming from remembering a past event which didn’t turn out the way I wanted.  When I have those thoughts/words I have emotions that arise- fear; anger; sadness; disappointment; or pain.  Therefore, when encountering a new situation or individual I have already decided how it will turn out and most likely that will be the case.  I have used my words, my will, against myself to create a way that proves I am a loser.

If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always got.  If you think what you’ve always thought, you will feel how you’ve always felt.  If you feel what you’ve always felt, you will get what you’ve always got.

quote

The power of the word, will, and way is irrefutable.  We can see it clearly in the lives of people around us and if we look we will see it in our lives as well.  But we are NOT POWERLESS!  Inside each of us is a Great Being waiting to be actualized through thoughts, feelings, and acts of loving kindness, compassion for all life, generosity to those in need; determination to bless instead of curse; and a fearless heart that refuses to accept the suffering of the world.

We have two selves.  A small, self-centered, egocentric self and a Great, selfless, benevolent self.  Everyone has activated the egocentric self that’s how we got our ticket to this life.  Few have taken the energy necessary to activate the infinite potential of Great Self.  Spirituality is the path out of suffering and into becoming the answer to all the prayers pouring out to Divine Spirit every minute of every day.

Monitor the words you say to yourself.  Change those words to kindness and compassion.  When you immerse in loving kindness to self give kindness away to others- the Way of Love, the Way of Grace, the Way of Blessing will manifest all around you.  What we focus on increases.

Remember, we can only add our piece to the great picture of Divine Goodness so we may be disappointed that our efforts don’t change the entire world.  But if we refuse to add our spark to the Divine Goodness Mission nothing will ever change.

In this time of fear, doubt, and disillusionment it’s essential that people of good heart, everywhere, use the power Divine Spirit has entrusted to us (The Word,The Will, The Way) to ensure that All beings shall be freed from suffering!

Oceans Wide the Open Heart

Great Mother is telling us that her heart is as vast as the ocean.  What happens to something that we drop into the ocean?  It is changed; it is transformed, and becomes something other than what it was.  If we pick up a stone or a shell from the beach it has been smoothed and made precious beyond what it was before.

8b3cb4182b5cae282457530ffdc70aa9When we go to Maha Amma she will begin to remove the energy of our rough edges.  When we think in terms of oceans of love we are most likely to think of love as indulgent- allowing and accepting endlessly the faults, and petty behaviors of others.  What do we know of the ocean- it constantly transforms everything it touches.  Great Mother is an infinite force of change brought about by love.  She smooth’s, changes, and sometimes wears away entirely that which is no longer useful for life.  Great Mother takes us into the vastness of her ocean, and when we surrender to her we are saying we are willing to be remade- to be remade into what will be of value to life and to our people.  Great Mother can change our nature, shape our nature, and make our nature more precious than we can ever imagine.

When change comes most people try to hold onto the past and keep the new energy, the transformational energy, from happening.  If we surrender to change we can be content to simply see what happens next.

Mother-Ocean-web re-2Come to the heart of Maha Amma and say- Change me to be who you need me to be. We may have ideas of what that is but this is not surrender.  In surrender we don’t hold on to any ideas of who we need to become- we allow ourselves to become someone Great Mother needs.

Bhakti means devotion.  The truly devout soul surrenders their will to the will of another.  Devotion is not putting our hands in a prayer mudra or keeping a pious look on our face.  It is the ability to surrender our will to the will of another and to become what they would make of us even if that is no one we would recognize.

Maha Amma’s great ocean of love is calling for us to come and be tumbled and remade in her image and likeness so we can understand the true meaning of love.

Perfection?

“Unchanging, absolute, static manifestation means no creativity is possible.”

Masters and saints tell us that perfection is over-rated and mostly boring.  They ask us to look at the natural world which has an infinite variety of possibilities in the formation of a single rose bush, stone, or tree.

Today consider rejoicing in all of your imperfections.   Every day is filled with opportunities to be disappointed in ourselves and others. What if we decide to celebrate our imperfections because they give us the chance to practice laughter.

When things go wrong we often feel the need to fix them.  When we are angry we might believe we are no longer in spirit grace. When we feel sick we may believe we have lost abundant life. When we are in pain we may believe we are being punished for past transgressions.  Spirit Truth is NEVER missing. We might misplace our love, our joy, our peace, or our ability to appreciate life…but they are never really gone.  The energy of Spirit belongs to us forever. We can remember that Spirit grace, Spirit energy is inside our heart, so it is always possible to reclaim it again.

When we create anything in the world we usually find that it is necessary to work from a pattern. There are basic patterns for clothing, automobiles, airplanes, radios, televisions, and anything else we can name. In order for something new, or different to happen, the basic pattern (which was perfectly fine as it was) has to be changed.  So although our personal basic pattern was good to begin with, by now we have discovered  a need for improvement or remodeling, or redecorating…because we are growing and changing.

Perfection as most understand it means: always being right, never making mistakes, and never needing to be healed or changed. Perfection of Spirit, however, is the joyful surrender to the infinite possibilities of Great Spirit’s manifestation in every circumstance, situation, and relationship of our lives.

Perfection of Spirit is rejoicing in the opportunities to grow, to change, and to be changed.

Spiritual mastery is claiming our Divine Inheritance of love, joy, and peace: “To the best of our ability, day by day.”  The wise person remembers that some days are better than others.  We are not perfect.  Our friends are not perfect.  Our leaders are not perfect.  Our children are not perfect.  No one is really perfect.

But even so each day is worth living to the best of our ability.

ImageGreat Spirit,
May I find joy in each moment.
May I find humor in my difficulties
and laughter at my mistakes.

Today, let me remember spirit’s blessings.
Everything can be forgiven
and forgotten
so that all is restored in beauty.

Help me to laugh at life’s irritations,
to be patient with others
as You are patient with me.
Great Spirit,
I will remember
that amazing things can happen
if I live my life with laughter, courage, and joy.
