Evolution or Entropy?

galaxy_universe-normalDivine Spirit is ever expanding, growing, and changing.  We know this because the universe is ever expanding, growing, and changing. However, in most cultural constructs the Divine Being is still portrayed as existing in a state of perfected beingness unattainable by mere human creatures, although everyone is expected to attempt this impossibility anyway.  If there is an all-knowing, all-seeing, absolutely perfect entity out there somewhere it means entropy has set in and god is dead!

As humans we appear to desire safety above all else.  We go to great lengths to be safe from loss, sickness, old age, and death.  We seek to eradicate illness, discover the fountain of youth through pills, creams, surgery, and research.  Most of us feel personally affronted and even betrayed by death. We want to find a perfect place, a perfect solution, a perfect life, a perfect family, and a perfect world.  Evolution is messy and often fails.  Statistics tell us that 13% of all species are evolving and out of those 90% will fail.  This means we are not safe.

know-your-enemy3It seems that throughout time, humans have felt compelled to create safety through the destruction of anything that is a threat to the status quo.  These threats can take the form of a neighbor, germs, immigrants, other nations, other faith groups, and even the self.  Language expresses these concepts of fear- demonic, heresy, abomination, anathema, bitch, bastard, ass-hole, etc.  And for many it is all justified in the name of a god who demands judgment, punishment, and retribution, now, or in some horrific hereafter.

What if Divine Spirit is not a perfect entity somewhere?  What if Divine Spirit is the indwelling force of compassion, forgiveness, understanding, and loving-kindness within all beings?  What if Divine Spirit is an ever expanding, evolutionary, and cosmic force that cannot be confined on a mountain top, within a temple, a church, or a book? Countless saints, from multitudinous religions, have confronted this great truth and called it the Divine Mystery or the Cloud of Unknowing.

c01a1693dfe1c8b5056996af742a754aWe are living in evolutionary times; in revolutionary times.  And yet, all around us we see people clinging to the old days, the old times, the mythical golden age of family, faith and country.  Was it really?  On closer look we see children abandoned, beaten, and starving.  We see animals tortured, experimented on, and killed to decorate someone’s wall.  Wars fought to bring change and leaving only poverty, disease, and destruction in there wake.  Women being raped, beaten, and sold into slavery…just like now.

Perhaps we need to look beyond the things that divide us.  Perhaps we need to look past gender identity, religious identity, national identity, and ideological identity.  We are being called to evolve into a people who identify with compassion, forgiveness, kindness, and generosity.  We are being called to live the Divine Mystery!

We don’t need someone with all the answers.  We need people to ask the right questions- People who know the earth as our sacred home- People who care enough to eradicate hunger, homelessness, and hopelessness!  We need young people to share their vision, to allow them to fire our passion and make a difference.  We need elders who are not content to be comfortable but are willing to lead us in a new spiritual consciousness of Love in Action!GalaticAlignEye

Spirit’s Manifestations

There are five basic manifestations of the path of spirit: love, joy, peace, abundant life, and light.

Today, let’s examine the manifestations of love.
The basic nature of humans and most animals is love.

Kindness-cat-and-birdManifestation #1 is Kindness
The first step consists of the golden rule: if you wouldn’t want unpleasant things to happen to you don’t create them for others.  If we don’t want disparaging remarks made about us, then don’t make them about others.  If we don’t want someone responding in irritation and anger, then don’t respond that way.  If we don’t want rejection and betrayal, then don’t reject or betray others.

Give away to others only what you are willing to receive for yourself.
This is the practice of holding up all of our actions to examination.  How would I feel if someone said, looked, acted in that way to me?  All of these practices are difficult to establish.  Expect to make mistakes.  As long as we still feel disempowered, unaccepted, unappreciated, belittled, betrayed, angry, or frustrated, we still have that negativity inside of us.  What we feel is ours!  It’s us having the experience.

Once we have accepted that what we feel is ours we can develop the practice of thanking those who allowed us to experience our negative emotions that create suffering.  Once we understand that we are the cause of our suffering we can develop mind habits that free us from suffering.  If we are one with Divine Spirit it doesn’t make any difference what anyone else is doing.

devotionManifestation #2 is Devotion
This is a rule of Love because awakening to passionate admiration for a great being, saint, spiritual teacher, or other representative of Divine Spirit allows one to emulate and model our behavior on someone we respect and hold in high regard. The All Spirit doesn’t require us to adore or worship.  We perform these practices because they awaken love inside of our hearts.  A true spiritual teacher doesn’t need or demand your devotion.  Is Great Spirit diminished because we decide not to pray?  No.  Does it matter to us?  Absolutely.  Devotion changes our relationship to love, kindness, and awakening consciousness.

Thupten_Jinpa_Modern_CompassionManifestation #3 Compassion
Compassion is the willingness to feel and experience the pain of another without needing to fix it, heal it, or do anything about it.  We are the gentle, warm-hearted listener allowing another to express their suffering without benefit of our advice.  Compassion is the practice of seeing a loved one’s face in the face of all other beings.  It’s the ability to truly rejoice in the good that comes to another even as a parent rejoices in the accomplishments of their child without envy or self-interest.  Compassion is the ability to see everyone as worthy.

prayer_t_nvRule #4 Sacrifice
Sacrifice is the willingness to take an active role in relieving suffering.
Here are some ways that might happen:  speak for those whose voices are not heard; give to charities; conduct a clothing or food drive; spend time praying for the benefit of all beings each day; if good things happen for you, dedicate the merit of that good for others.  Walk barefoot and let the pain, shame, and rejection you experience be an energy you carry for those who bear great suffering.  Bless the food you eat that all beings, everywhere, shall be full and content.  When cleaning dedicate that energy so that entities will be freed from their inner pain and feelings of unworthiness.  When in pain, say, As I have and feel this pain, and as it is healed, may it do good for all the people of the world who are in pain.

The practices of love are liberating us through conscious awareness.  To truly practice being love means there is no vacation, and no time off to be human, judgmental, depressed, unworthy, limited, or a gossip. Constant vigilance of our thoughts and behaviors will reap the reward of feeling and knowing love all of the time.  Why would we want to do anything else?

The Blessing Way

The potential for delivering blessings is everywhere. This practice is easy when we’re happy, but not so easy when we are not. If we are not blessing most likely we are cursing.

Grandchild offering small bouquet of summer wild flowers to grandmother “I will bless this person with good” This practice of blessing is not concerned with what we think another should have but giving what we have to share. Even when the situations in our lives create discomfort and pain we can still ask, “What are the blessings I still have in my life?” Remember that in true generosity there is a return that comes to us. It’s when we give more than we think we have to spare that a door opens for more blessings to come in.

Blessing Principle
Money, time, energy, possessions. When we give away our blessings, they are not gone. They may become something more or something else. When we give all that we have something comes to fill that empty place.

The Blessing Way. “I am wishing and knowing good things for you today.” This statement arises from compassion.  It leads us into grace.

girl and dogBlessing Abundance
We cannot bless another until we fill ourselves so we have something to share – this could be grace, joy, abundance, or almost anything. We move our consciousness to the place where we know gratitude. The authenticity of our knowing amounts to the power of our blessing. Otherwise it is just a wish or a fantasy.

POST IT!
Try this practice for a little each day. Write a word that describes your gratitude/blessing energy, on a  post-it-note. Place it where you will always see it, know it. Maybe you will write GRATITUDE – or any word that describes how you are blessed. Be with that energy. Pay special attention to how you feel. Know it then send it to another. Of course there will be days we call a bad day- on those days especially- it is important to-

  1. Remember possibilities
  2. Find your blessings
  3. Feel them strongly and share them enthusiastically

Practice the Blessing Way
Remember to bless and be bold. Maybe your Unkind inner voices say mean things. Bless your unkind voices…say “Bless you” like when someone sneezes. Do what you can. Blessings everywhere you go. Give away in kindness. See what you can do today.  I think you will enjoy it.

On Being Human

“All human beings have the ability to decide, to create, and to choose. Celebrate the opportunities before yourselves every day. And accept yourself as you are. Make yourself available to others.  Sometimes when you have too many stories, it is hard to be like a little child and play.”  Father Mukanda Dawe

persolaise-chypre-laughterTo be a human being is to know, practice, and express the energies of compassion, cooperation, sharing, kindness, deep listening, and communication as a thoughtful speaker. To be a human being requires understanding mercy and justice.  Humans want to change things. Make improvements. Share our joys and our sorrows. We are hardwired to do this.

People are not always born as human beings they have to learn to become human beings. To be a Great Being we first have to be a human being.  Only when we have become fully human can we truly walk a Path of Spirit.  bronzekidshurt-children2It is possible – and oh so likely – that many people who proclaim their religion as the definition of right action are not even human beings as they continually endorse the extermination of others and contribute to the most egregious forms of human rights violations including war, slavery, genocide, torture, and the degradation of the Earth.  Only those who have not become fully human could wantonly kill people, earths creatures, and advocate for the destruction of Mother Earth – when all these things and beings are a part of our very soul?

In order to be fully human, it’s important to remember that it is alright to have sorrows and be regretful – which is different from guilt which is to be frozen and stuck in place.  To be human is to have compassion, to know how to truly help others – and how to bring changes to world-mind consciousness by our decisions and actions.  Such is our task, to bring about greater spiritual functionality so we can BE a Light for the World.  Another way to describe this energy is HUMANITARIAN which is an experience and an expression of empathy, sharing, listening with concern, and speaking with kindness.

kindness-concepts-3Who are you? Whether you are born a boy or girl or two spirit – everyone has given you expectations about how and what they expect you to be.  But most are never taught that you are a multi-dimensional spirit being here in this world to make a contribution to the good of all. Human beings are born to give. It is your purpose for life. All plants and animals know this and systemically make their contribution to the life force energy.

The purpose of the Society of the Compassionate Heart is to awaken the consciousness so people can become Human Beings and not just creatures.   To be human puts us right back to becoming a Great Being –It is about making choices in generosity, cooperation, helpfulness, cheerful supportive, nurturing kindness, understanding forgiveness, and tolerant patience.

Lead our passion for service to be nourishment for the Mission

Together as family we emerge from the vastness of possibility,
Woven in the Spirit of Love.

Holy Spirit’s breath unfolding in the now
Is the unfoldment of bliss.

The gift of spirit realized with grateful hearts
Filled with unconditional love we are embraced

By the moment of freedom,
The moment where there is no suffering.

We receive this gift, we give this gift
We are free, so let it be.
